Make this waterfall your only waterfall stop while visiting Ubud, Bali. You get the feeling of being in a tropical paradise at Tibumana waterfall. Tibumana will fulfill all of your waterfall-chasing fantasies, from the lovely palm tree-lined road leading to it, the well-kept walk through the jungle, or the sound of rushing water before you even see it.

Tibumana Waterfall

Set aside a few hours of your day to experience the magnificent Tibumana waterfall in its entirety. Follow my advice in the guide below to make the most of your trip.

Finding Tibumana Waterfall Bali

In the middle of what I refer to as the "Waterfall Trail" is the Tibumana waterfall. The Suwat and Kanto Lampo waterfalls are part of this region, which is only 30 minutes' drive east of Ubud. The drive, through congested traffic, will take you 1.5 hours if you are coming from the Canggu or Seminyak area.

Don't worry, Google Maps won't misdirect you because the directions are quite accurate in this area. Try typing Air Terjun Tibumana, the waterfall's indigenous name, if for some reason Tibumana Waterfall doesn't work.

The Tibumana Waterfall in Bali: What to Expect

The stunning palm tree-lined road leading to the Tibumana waterfall parking lot is the first thing you'll see. Take some time to enjoy and perhaps even record this beautiful drive on camera. Leave your car or scooter in the paved parking area at the end of the road, then proceed to the ticket window to retrieve your ticket. In Indonesia, it's a good idea to always have cash on hand since the majority of these small attractions only accept actual cash.

Wander to the right, down the stairs, and down the cement path. A small warung serving simple snacks and beverages as well as a bank of private restrooms will be located here. Before continuing on to Tibumana Falls, which is just a 10-minute walk away, take a moment to put on your swimming gear or use the restroom. There is a small changing area at the base of the falls if you decide not to change here.

Following your organization, walk down the maintained path while being cautious of your step on the mossy, slippery ground (especially after a rain!). The route of this lovely walk passes through a jungle, over bridges, and next to smaller waterfalls.

Before you see the falls, you will hear them. Turn the corner to find a stunning waterfall with a refreshing natural pool that is 20 meters high. A helpful local lifeguard is on duty here, keeping an eye on the attraction. For a small donation, you can use this raft to take some fun pictures for Instagram or to splash around in the water.

Spend some time discovering everything that this waterfall has to offer. Also, make an effort to interact with the locals; they are very welcoming.

The lifeguard on duty will caution you against wading too far into the natural pool. He is the same guy who rents out the rafts. Heed his warnings because the force of the falls can be dangerous for visitors. You can delve down far enough to take some breathtaking pictures and enjoy the pool's cooling effects.

When to Visit Tibumana Waterfall: The Best Time Bali

The best time to visit the mesmerizing Tibumana waterfall is during the rainy season, from November to March. During this time, the waterfall flows at its fullest and the lush greenery surrounding it comes alive, providing a picture-perfect backdrop for nature enthusiasts and photography lovers.

The cool breeze, accompanied by the soothing sound of the gushing waterfall, creates an enchanting atmosphere that makes the trek to the waterfall worth it. And, as you stand beneath the cascading waters, you'll be surrounded by a natural beauty that will leave you breathless.

However, it is recommended to check the weather forecast before heading out, as heavy rains can make the trek a bit challenging. Also, make sure to wear appropriate shoes as the trek to the waterfall can be slippery in some areas.

If you're planning to visit the Tibumana waterfall, be sure to visit during the rainy season to experience its true magic and immerse yourself in its awe-inspiring beauty.

To avoid crowds of people, Tibumana waterfall is best visited before 11 AM. Over the past couple of years, the falls have gained popularity and have risen to the top of many pre-planned tours. These tours show up at around 11:00.

At the Tibumana Waterfall, take pictures

I wouldn't worry too much about getting the best light here if you're a photographer visiting Tibumana waterfall. But if you really want to nail it, go to the falls between 8 and 9 in the morning when the light is just starting to peek through the jungle above and cast a lovely glow. The base of the falls will probably be in shadow no matter what time of day you visit because the area is heavily forested. Increase your ISO, but don't go over 400 because that might introduce grain to your picture.

After coming here, I can recommend a wide-angle lens with confidence. You'd be wise to bring a 16-35mm if you have one because the waterfall and natural pool are quite wide in composition. You can see what I mean by how narrow it feels in all the photos in this blog, which were all taken with a 24-70mm lens.

There are a few fantastic photo locations to think about. Just before wading into the water, the first one is perched atop the big boulder. Have your subject stand atop so they can be seen against the stunning backdrop of the falls and natural pool.

Secondly, as you approach from the left, you can frame your shot with the nearby rocks and vegetation. In the natural pool, your subject can stand. Your photograph has some really amazing depth thanks to the foreground framing, the midground subject, and the far background waterfall.

Last but not least, take a close-up photo of your subject having fun in the water with the waterfall's texture in the background.
